Charli XCX wants you to know that ‘You’re the One’

Charli XCX is back with a new clip and Swide can’t get enough of it. We’re getting excited; the video for new single ‘You’re The One’ has just hit the internet, people have already noted her as the future of pop music and she’s bringing girl power back to British music. Not bad for a 19 year old lass from Hertfordshire, England.

Charli XCX, aka Charlotte Aitchison, says, ‘It’s quite simple really. We need to reboot British girl power, but this time with edge!’ Now that’s fighting talk, if i’m not mistaken, and it’s talk that was not without promise. The star of Charli XCX is rising and 2012 is certainly shaping up to be quite a good year for the artist. In an age of overnight success and flash-in-the-pan one hit wonders, the craft of Charli XCX isn’t the brainchild of some money hungry pop machine. This young woman has been doing it for herself and she is the one that has carefully built her reputation amongst her peers. Aitchison notes her style of music as intricate, post-apocalyptic pop, reflected in titles of her tracks like ‘Stay Away’, ‘Nuclear Sessions’ and ‘End of the World’. 2011’s ‘Stay Away’ was reminiscent of the likes of 90’s songstresses Sinead O’Connor set to the beats of something that can be likened to Sweden’s ‘The Knife’ and her sound has continually evolved. Alex Metric, British musician and DJ, was so impressed by Charlotte displayed as Charli that a collaboration was soon in the making, introducing to an even wider audience.

‘You’re the One’, which is taken from the ‘You’re the One’ EP and features a remix from Blood Orange, is due for release in the UK 19 August. With beats that would make any Swedish producer proud, vocals that can be compared to early Madonna and a sense of style that is both lending a hand to the 90s and also forward thinking (think Robyn), Charli XCX’s mix of dark pop, understated beauty and girl power credentials, teamed up with her passion for making music as bold and strong as possible, has all the tell tale signs of an unstoppable artist.

Keep your eyes on Swide for more from Charli XCX. You can catch her on tour with Coldplay and Santigold this Summer.

You’re the One is released 19 August on I Am Sound and her debut album is penned in for release in Autumn 2012.
