Having remixed Lana Del Rey, Chad Valley and Glasser, Cashmere Cat fans were waiting for his own material. Here’s the Mirror Maru EP.
Glasser Treasury Of We (Cashmere Cat remix)
Glasser - Treasury Of We (X.V. & Cashmere Cat Remix)
Coming out of Oslo, Magnus August Høiberg has been working on his craft for sometime now, experimenting with the work of others whilst dabbling with production. The remix of Treasury Of We is a testament to the sound of Cashmere Cat, showcasing his ability to flit between chill-wave, experimental RnB, tropical/ethnic/oriental rhythms and understated electronica.
Lana Del Rey - National Anthem (Cashmere Cat Remix)With Lana Del Rey’s National Anthem, he touches upon dubstep and bringing the chorus alive in the second half of the track with glittering synths and mechanical snares.
The four tracks found on Cashmere Cat’s Mirror Maru EP play out in a similar way. The EP’s third track Kiss Kiss is a modern take on the late 90s RnB smooth groves and slow jams, leading to blissful beat that would be welcome on indie-club dance floors.
Mirror MaruBut it is the title track, above, that steals the show; Mirror Maru could be mistaken for a experimental remix of Florence + the Machine. With its mix of wind and string instruments sitting alongside pulsing electronica, Cashmere Cat is playing with familiar elements but splicing them together as seen in the emerging experimental RnB movement.
Cashmere Cat Mirror Maru EP is available now on Pelican Fly records.
