Be my Luxury Valentine’s

Be My Luxury Valentine's

Swide selects some exceptionally luxurious gifts to show your love this Valentine’s Day.

Lets face it, Valentine’s Day is a purely commercial holiday, and well, if its got to be commercial we should make it special. Swide selects five über luxurious gifts so you can splash the cash and spread the love.

Sotherby’s Engagement ring

Many people get engaged on Valentine’s Day. Being a bit of a naff proposal date, make it extraordinary with the best engagement ring you can find (and afford). Sotheby’s has a niche jewellery section that sells very special one off pieces, and this is where I would like that special someone to head to if he proposed (on Valentine’s Day or any other day of the year for that matter).  Steer clear of the banal with this 10.41 carats pear shaped diamond with additional set pave set diamonds on platinum. Price is undisclosed, but who can put a price on true love?

South Africa the six-carat safari

A holiday is more than a gift, it’s an experience and a memory that will last into the future. South Africa, though not immediately perceived as a romantic getaway is a great destination to head to. Luxury travel agents Abercrombie and Kent have set up what they call a Six –Carat South Africa Safari that includes Cape Town for foodies, the Cape Winelands for wine lovers, whale watching and a big five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros) safari. The basic tailor made holiday costs $24000, excluding flights to and from South Africa. Hefty I know, but the experience will make for a priceless memory.

Classic Car Ferrari Berlinetta Boxter 1977

Want to surprise the man in your life with a truly spectacular gift? The auction house Bonhams have got their hand on a 1977 Ferrari Berlinetta Boxter, which goes to auction on the 7th February. Beautifully kept, and with such contemporary lines, it has the feel of a brand new roadster, but the allure of vintage. Estimate is at €110,000 – 135,000, but what can be a better gift for Valentine’s Day than a piece of automobile history.

Globe Trotter case and FujiFilm camera

Photography is back in vogue and everyone and their mother is attempting to take artsy pictures also thanks to apps like Instagram, Hipstamatic and many more. Why not gift your other half with a very respectable piece of kit with this collaboration between FujiFilm and Globe Trotter. In a Globe-Trotter fibreboard case, with leather trim there’s a X-Pro1 camera body, 60mm lens, 35mm lens, 18mm lens, with protective filters and lens hoods for each, and a shoe mount flash. Limited to 12 pieces, costs £5,695 and is exclusive to Harrods. A nice piece of kit.

Elton John and Aids Foundation Oscar Party

Just 10 days after Valentine’s Day come the Oscars. Surprise your loved one with an evening rubbing elbows with the stars at Elton John’s Oscar Party in conjunction with the AIDS Foundation. For those in the know, and who know the right people getting a ticket for THE must go Oscar party is a doddle, and the  £2400 ticket price per head is for a good cause no? Can money be better spent than on helping others? And then there’s the designer clothes for the party, the flights to LA, a suite at the Beverly Hills Hotel…
