The home of London fashion week, and the Courtauld Institute, Somerset House, does not disappoint when it comes to fashion and art displays. Next on their calendar is Tim Walker.
Tim Walker: Story Teller
Tim Walker is one of the most inspirational and eccentric fashion photographers on the contemporary scene. Extravagant in scale and ambition and instantly recognisable for their eye-opening originality, Walker’s photographs dazzle with life, colour and humour. His recent work is drawn from the pages of the world’s leading magazines: British, French, American and Italian Vogue, Vanity Fair, W and The New Yorker among many others.
The exhibition will showcase 175 of his most inspirational pictures, and it will open on 18th October. One of the most characteristic elements of Tim Walker’s works is the almost cinematographic scale of his sets: hair and make-up artists, fashion stylists and costume fitters, model makers, set designers, builders, producers and painters, prop suppliers and a cast of models playing out imagined roles.
The importance of his cast is also celebrated in the Somerset House exibition as some of Walker’s long-time collaborators will feature in some accompaniying events. There weill also be a chance to see a series of films specially curated by Tim Walker, such as cult movies like La Belle at la Bete, The Red Shoes, A Matter of Life and Death and Tim’s own first feature The Lost Explorer.
The exhibition runs in conjunction with a volume published by Thames and Hudson, Story Teller by Tim Walker.
Story Teller by Tim Walker runs from 18th October 2012 through to 27th January 2013.
