New York: Chelsea Tour

Yes, the Met has "Tomás Saraceno on the Roof Cloud City" on until November 4th. And the New Museum has the impressive retrospective of Nathalie Djurberg, The Parade. But Chelsea is the place to be always - and in August, too - because it offers the widest variety of contemporary concentrated in a single (fun, bustling) neighborhood, together with open-air cool parties with free drinks during the different openings (which doesn't hurt). Don't miss John Drury, Robert Goldman, Elisabeth Kley, Walter Robinson for the Claxon exhibit (Haunch of Venison550 West 21St Street); and the 31 Women in ARt Photography exhibition (Hasted Kraeutler537 West 24th Street).

São Paulo: Caravaggio

1 August – 30 September

The Baroque art of Michelangelo Merisi Caravaggio will be taking centre stage at Museu De Arte De Sao Paulo this August in the exhibition ‘Caravaggio and his Followers’. We, at Swide, are already devoted followers of the ‘Master of Light’ and so it is time for us all to appreciate those who are said to be directly influenced by the 16th century genius. Six of Caravaggio’s masterpieces will be joined by the works of 14 other artists, displaying the influence and relevance that Caravaggio still has today.

Toronto: Lisa Myers and Autumn Chacon

11 August – October 28

As part of the popular Toronto Now series, which is now in its third year and celebrates the work of local artists, Toronto based artist Lisa Myers and writer/performance artist Autumn Chacon present Noise Cooking. This isn’t your regular approach to cooking, no. This explores the sound possibilities and the project examines issues around ancestry, perseverance and celebration. It also uncovers unexpected connections between food prepared in places separated by great distances.
