The new outsiders

The writings on the wall, as Banksy's dealer releases a new book

Outsiders is a new photo book showcasing hundreds of sensational images from "outsider artists" that include some of the art world's hottest young grafiitit artists - self taught painters, and taxidermists such as Banksy, Jamie Hewlett, Antony Micallef, Faile, Stanley Donwood, Mode 2, Paul Insect, Kelsey Brookes, Conor Harrington, Invader, Ben Turnbull, Mark Jenkins, 3D, Jonathan Yeo, Lucy McLauchlan, Miranda Donovan, Zevs to name but a few.

The book is compiled by art dealer Steve Lazarides (Banksy's art dealer) - owner of the cult gallery "Lazarides" - one of the main sources of Banksy original artwork and prints and housed in London's Soho, on the site of a former dealer in sadomasochistic paraphernalia. If the hoardes of tourists heading to the Tate Modern scare you - look for their neon sign flashing ‘the dungeon’. The gallery is refereshingly completely open to the public and they encourage admirers of their artists to browse exhibitions at their leisure.

In addition relatively new spaces have been added on London's Charing Cross Road, one called the Print Room (also selling many three-dimensional and sculptural pieces), plus a ground-level space further down the road at 121 Charing Cross, showing a permanently revolving group show. In Nov 2007, the gallery also opened a space outside of London in Newcastle opposite the famous Baltic Gallery.

The standard edition is priced at £10 and the special edition, of which there are 1000 numbered copies, is £75.
