Bret Easton Ellis: The new book Imperial Gardens

With 80's sequels a hot topic in Hollywood right now author Bret Easton Ellis is hoping a film version of his new book will reunite the cast of his first novel and controversial film, Less Than Zero.

Ellis' new book Imperial Gardens is out in May 2010 and continues the story of the rich Beverly Hills, generation X'ers (imagine a more sordid version of Gossip Girl but without the Bergdorf outfits). Although we'd half imagined the characters may have gone the way of Mischa Barton, Ellis has assured his fans that the characters do still exist.

I first thought [they’d be dead] when I started thinking about it; when I began to outline the book and figure out who’s going to be around and who’s not – some of the main people are going to be okay,” Easton Ellis is quoted as saying.

The original's primary character, the infamous Julian Wells who was played on the big screen by Robert Downey Jr (it was said the part sent Downey into his notorious drugs and drink spiral) is back in the book and is described as, “fragile, but sober.”

After watching a clip from the original (above) - we're intrigued as to what a sequel would hold. Could the author's Twitter page (twitter.com/Eastonellis) hold the clue? After a quick peek our questions are as follows - will Beyonce's track, 'Halo' really make an appearance on the film's soundtrack and will The Hills be an inspiration?
