Breaking act: Julian Peretta

After a run of fantastic girls breaking the music business, we think it's time to take a look at the boys. 20 year old Irish-Italian songwriter Julian Peretta's new single Wonder Why has received more than 2.6m plays. Swide takes a listen.

We're just emerging from our holiday playlist bubble and after a month of dance tracks, we're after something more upbeat to get us through returning to the office. New(ish) Perretta, who joined Mark Ronson on his European tour,  has been tipped as one of MTV's top new artists of 2009, and admired by uberblogger Perez Hilton could well be the man to break the boredom spell.

Single Wonder Why was released this week and is available to download. The single is taken from Peretta's forthcoming album Out of My Head - out early 2010.

As all emerging male popstars with a hint of quirkiness appear get the 'next Mika' treatment, we''l avoid Mika and opt for a comparison with Leo Sayer instead. The hair is there obviously, but as is an upbeat attitude and lyrics. Nobody needs  introspection from a teenager...
