The Dolce&Gabbana SS12 menswear collection was born of a traditional Sicilian image: the fisherman. Turned up trousers, muted colours, as though faded by sea water, coppola hats feature strongly in the collection. The most important dedication to the idyllic Sicilian coastal life however is the net: knitwear, mesh and even laser cut leather all reference the strong inspiration.

You know, one of the best things about Sicily is the food. Every single friend that has visited me, here, throughout the years has always been astonished by the art, landscape and people, but after all, it is the food is that they remember.

We’re not necessarily advocates of the “his-and-her” fashion statement, but when it looks this good you’ll forgive us for trying. Foulards for men!

Net is an important concept for Dolce&Gabbana. It is largely developed along three lines: firstly the reference to Sicilian fishermen nets, like for the SS12 menswear collection, the fact that net is in a way an interpretation of tulle or lace, and finally, net as in internet, which references the brand’s commitment to the digital sphere.

Brightly coloured outerwear is the key to a Spring look. Opt for nappa leather in jewel hues or pastel cotton bouclé for a fashion cover up.

Italy has a long history of craftsmanship that intertwines different paths: art, fashion, food, wine, car industry but also design. How did it all start? Swide recounts the history of Italian Design to explain why, even today, we excel at it.
